Oksana Shulzhenko, M.D.
Dedicated to treating a full range of sleep disorders, Dr. Shulzhenko prides herself on educating patients about these often overlooked, and potentially deadly, conditions.


Board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine and Sleep Medicine, Dr. Shulzhenko has won many awards and honors for her work and research projects.


Dr. Shulzhenko's career started in 1987 in Omsk, Russia, when she began her medical education at Omsk State Kalinin Medical University. Upon graduation, she completed her residency training in Internal

Medicine at the University of Chicago, Louis A. Weiss Memorial Hospital. A Fellowship followed in Sleep Medicine at the Sleep Disorders Center at Rush- Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago.


During that same time, Dr. Shulzhenko was Chief Fellow in pulmonary and critical care medicine at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in Chicago.


In 2004, Dr. Shulzhenko joined Respiratory Consultants in Aurora, where she still practices today. In 2005, she was named medical director for the Midwest Center for Sleep Disorders.


Dr. Shulzhenko was a 1994 Dean's Scholar and was named Resident of the Year in 2001 for her exceptional patient care and outstanding academic achievements.


An advocate of research in her field, Dr. Shulzhenko has worked on several research projects, including an article on pulmonary strongyloidiasis, accepted for publication in November 2003 issue of Clinical Pulmonary Medicine. She also has written articles about chronic respiratory failure requiring renal replacement therapy, and the prevalence of radiologic pneumoconiosis in active Ukrainian coal miners.
